TGI-Saturday: A Holiday Wallet Story: Patryk's Burnin' Rubber Piccola Wallet

Thanks Patryk.
all photos Red Dots Cycling

During the holidays we received this well worn and loved Piccola wallet from Patryk of Nelson, BC.

He sent us his wallet for repair. This wallet originates from the time before we changed our name to Red Dots Cycling so we believe it's 3-4 years old. Patryk requested that we 'stitch it so I could get another few years of good times out of it.' It warms us that this wallet is so well used, apparent is the fabric and stitching has worn through. And, the rubber has also soften considerably. Amazingly our homemade printed 'Galsudio' label has remained in tact. Unfortunately, we no longer are able to make rubber products in our tiny studio. We love Patryk's story so much we decided to gift him one of the last remaining Piccola wallets we have in stock.

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year Patryk may you have good times out of it!

We are busy working on re-branding our logo, new website and blog. As we are all about handmade, changes will take time. We promise it won't take too long. Stay tune!

Our Custom Cafe Roubaix Cycling Cap

The new Cafe Roubaix custom cycling cap
photo Red Dots Cycling

I first started to follow the story of Cafe Roubaix from Cochrane Alberta, keying in on their David vs Goliath story. Facebook is how I learned of their fantastic story and I 'liked' them - how can you not? I'm originally from Alberta too and I'm happy Cafe Roubaix persevered along with incredible support from many folks around the world. Us included. Shortly afterwards, Dan contacted us for shop cycling caps and wanted Canadian made. A few emails later, we are proud to be chosen to make their shop caps. Today, on Dan's Facebook page, it looks like a positive reaction to the caps...

Italian is the buzz word for today's TGIF!

The wait is over. We have been advertising this new cap since January. However, production was postponed due to custom orders. We're excited to launch our newest Tifosi cycling cap!

Our admiration and love for Italian cycling holds no bounds, coinciding with the exciting Tirreno Adriatico stage race. Tradition is the key in making the Tifosi, we include a handmade Italian tricolor consisting of 3 ribbons sewn together. Made from pre-washed black linen/cotton for durability, comfort and wicking properties it is our favorite fabric. We use a standard 100% pre-washed cotton wicking band, adding a fiery red linen/cotton under brim. Our embroidered Red Dots logo includes a special Italian tricolor.

So, go ahead and get your TIFOSI CYCLING CAP, show your support because it's FAN-tastic!

TGIF: Upcoming Audax, Forza! - FRFuggitivi Team Cap & Valentine's Day Nueva Vuelta!

Plaid will be back... The Audax.
All Photos Red Dots Cycling

We're busy putting the finishing touches on our next Spring cycling cap. This beauty should be out in a few days, so here's a teaser photo of our upcoming new cycling cap called... Audax!

Forza!
The FRFuggitivi custom team cap.

Our FRFuggitivi team is getting ready for our third season starting this Spring. And, to ring it in I pitched the idea to the team and we all agreed on this amazing design. It works very well. Fuggitivi is the Italian expression for breakaway riders... fugitives. Thanks to Guy for naming this - it's the perfect description, 'escaping one's other commitments to go for a ride can feel like being a fugitive. 'FR' refers to the Fraser River area (New Westminster, BC that is) where the Sunday rides commence from. It's striking, 3 ribbons to form the Italian ribbon, embroidery team name and logo handmade from linen/cotton - our favorite fabric that offers excellent comfort, breathability and wicking.

LOVE IS IN THE AIR!

We have been busy adding some refinements to two of our popular cycling caps...

Introducing the new extra cool SKA -licious cycling cap!

Keeping with the basic SKA colors - black and white strong stripe and under brim we added our new embroidered 2-tone logo with white dots. And, we made it from linen/cotton because it wicks very well, is antibacterial and is comfortable to wear. Oh, and go ahead and sweat-we sew in a 100% cotton wicking band.

Ride, sweat and groove to the Beat!

The New Running of the Vuelta El Toro Cycling Cap

Our new Vuelta El Toro Cycling Cap.
photo Red Dots Cycling

We are looking forward to the upcoming 68th Vuelta a España, starting August 24th - September 15th.

It will have 11 summit finishes including a rare summit finish in France, at Peyragudes - a continuation of the famous Peyresourde climb. Also, the feared 13km Angliru monster climb returns (last used in 2011) for the final stage to ultimately decide the winner - that's why we love the Vuelta promising high drama right until the end.

The upcoming Vuelta sets the stage for us to produce a new cycling cap with the theme - el toro - the symbol of Spain and the Vuelta...

Introducing the Vuelta El Toro Cycling Cap!

The new exciting design is a radical departure for us - introducing one red panel to emphasize our striking El Toro embroidery design. Using our favorite linen/cotton, to make a perfect sturdy and comfortable fitting summer cycling cap. And, sweat away - we sew in a 100% cotton wicking band. It's all in the detail - we complete the design adding a striking red/yellow/red Spanish ribbon.

I'm impressed how Carolle managed to design this beautiful yet intricate design, especially with the basic software we have.

We are very happy with the new Vuelta El Toro cycling cap- and we hope you will enjoy it too.

So, go ahead and take this bull by the horns!

TGIF: The New Limited Edition; Le Tour 100 Cycling Cap & tdf 100 Inner Tube Wallet.

Vive Le Tour 100!
All Photos Red Dots Cycling

It's all in the embroidery details!

This is the 100th edition of the Tour de France!

We love Le Tour and to honor this important milestone, Carolle and I are proud to introduce the new Le Tour 100 Cycling Cap and tdf 100 Piccola Wallet! Our new handmade cap offers unique details, embroidered underbrim detail and embroidered yellow 'le tour 100'. All the embroidery is done in our Vancouver studio with our new machine. We marvel at how well our new machine embroiders!

The ultimate prize: the yellow jersey...
Simon Gerrans wore le maillot jaune for
two days!
via media.melty.fr

Why yellow?

The leader wears the maillot jaune or yellow jersey. Since 1919, the leader of the general classification wears the yellow jersey. The winner of the first Tour in 1903 wore a green armband not a yellow jersey. There is some doubt as to when the yellow jersey began. Philippe Thys won the Tour in 1913, 1914 and 1920 and years later said he was awarded the yellow jersey in 1913.

This beautiful Le Tour 100 cycling cap is a limited edition - on sale now while quantities last!

'le tour 100' for the yellow jersey!

The tdf 100 Piccola inner tube wallet.

We also took our popular Piccola wallet and improved it...

The results are striking! We added a bold red fabric with a French tricolor ribbon, embroidered Eiffel tower/wheel and 'tdf 100' script. We slightly enlarged the wallet to hold a few more plastic cards and business cards. We love the limited edition tdf 100 Piccola inner tube wallet  - C'est Magnifique!

Ordering the Limited Edition cap and wallet together...

For the first time, our tdf 100 wallet was designed to compliment Le Tour 100 cap. We're so excited with the results that when you order the cycling cap and wish to order the wallet as well, the shipping price from the wallet will be paid by us!

Enjoy and Vive Le Tour!

Ride on! with the new Tempo Cycling Cap!

Ride on! with the new Tempo!
photo Red Dots Cycling

We are excited to introduce the new Tempo cycling cap!

Our second best selling cap... made even better.

It is a four-panel design cap made from strong and durable Linen/cotton. A fabric that has antiallergic properties, absorbs dampness and sweat very quickly. Can it get better? We think so.

We proudly include our new embroidered logo. And you are covered on your rides, so don't sweat it because you can sweat with the new added 100% cotton wicking head band.

You will enjoy your rides... in Tempo!

TGIF: Welcome Our New Embroidered Logo! & Extending the 25-40% Sale!

Introducing our new Logo,
on the classic Cappello Nero.
photo: Red Dots Cycling

This is a cause for celebration!

Not only it's TGIF... we also designed and made our first Red Dots Cycling embroidered logo! This is a major change to our cycling cap. We added a size label, description label, a new wicking band and... the new embroidered logo!

It all took time, plenty of hard work (Carolle you are the best!) and we are happy that this is the final cap version. We are proud of our new logo and pretty soon you will see it in all of our cycling caps!

The new 'r & d with 3 red dots
photo Red Dots Cycling

It's fitting our new embroidered logo appears on our classic and popular - Cappello da Ciclismo Nero Cycling Cap!

This is the first logo made on our new embroidery machine rendered on a free online software. It's quirky and crashes but it is free. For now, we are making it work for us. Eventually, our next goal is to acquire the proper software for our machine.

Good News!

We decided to extend our popular 25-40% Off Sale because we want to make room for the new cycling caps with embroidered logo. Happy shopping on excellent deals!

TGIF: First cap made from our new Pfaff, new Logo & How to wear a cycling cap by Gianni Bugno,

Cappello Nero Rosso
photo: Red Dots Cycling

TGIF time!

We just made our very first small run of Cappello Nero Rosso caps on our new Pfaff machine!

We love it! The machine is fast and works so efficiently that we believe we will save in production time. The New Nero Rosso's are now in stock.

Carolle is busy working on a Red Dots Cycling logo design destined to be embroidered. I can't reveal it until it's finalize. So, we are at the fine tuning stage and it's progressing well.

We think highly of Gianni Bugno, former world champion (twice in 1991 & 1992), stage winner in all Grand Tours and classic winner. He is a cool guy and remains in cycling as a RAI TV helicopter pilot and president of CPA (Association of Professional Cyclists). We love this video of the former world champ revealing 'how to wear a cycling cap.'

I think he would look even better with one of our caps!

Recycled Rubber Labels

In the past, we tried many labels on our products.

It made sense to have something handmade.

My first thought, "How can I make my own labels in house?"

I experimented with many techniques and never happy with the results. I went online and came across custom made rubber labels. It was embossed rubber labels. It was extremely costly rubber labels. So, with all the recycled rubber I have ...what can I do with it?

In the last year, we've made all of our own labels using recycled rubber inner tubes. We heat press our logo on the rubber and sew the label onto each product.

Often, our customers don't realize we use recycled rubber inner tubes for our labels. It's obvious when our labels are on our rubber products, it's not so obvious when it's on our cycling caps.

Our customers are pleasantly surprised!

Keep On Truckin' Cycling Cap

The New Keep On Truckin' Cycling Cap
© Red Dots Cycling

When I was a young kid, I had a t-shirt that read, Keep on Truckin' and also a patch on my jeans.

I always thought it was a great statement including the iconic image of optimism during the hippie era.

Inspiration comes from that phrase onto our new Keep on Truckin' Cycling Cap! This 100% red cotton fabric is full of iconic heavy duty machinery brand name logos. The truckers badge. Now available (here) in two sizes: Small/Medium and Medium/Large.

One thing that binds cyclists and truckers is the optimistic love for the open road, wear this fun and whimsical cap and ...Keep on Truckin'!

The New Red Dots Label

A few of our favorite things.

We're about to make our new Red Dots Cycling Cap and we need new labels.

We decided that our earlier Galstudio label with the recycled inner tube backing is really funky and we like it a lot. So, we decided to keep it and change the label design.

A major advantage, is that we tested it on thousands of cycling caps, we know it's washable and sweat proof a design that works.

We are proud that the label is made from 50% recycled materials and designed and made in our studio!

The New Business Card

I like our polka dot's!

This is the first draft of our new business cards.

Knowing Carolle, she'll change the design. But she tells me, that it's a good start!
